Ask any HVAC expert and they will strongly advise you never to miss your yearly tune-up. However, what happens if you do decide to skip it? In most cases, nothing. Nothing at all will happen, and that is often the costly part. When you skip something that needs done and the world doesn’t come to an end, it makes you confident that you can skip it next year too.
While nothing may happen again the next time you skip an air conditioner tune-up, the longer you go, the more likely you are to have a problem. When you do manifest a problem, if you have skipped your tune-ups, it is likely to be a very expensive fix. Here is what is happening when you skip your yearly AC tune-up.
Dirty Air Filters
If you are accustomed to changing the filters yourself, then this may not be a big deal. However, changing an air filter can be part of air conditioning service. It not only ensures clean air in your home, but it ensures clean air is going into your air conditioner which will prevent clogs and other damage.
Clogged Drains
Unlike air filters, you probably aren’t used to checking the condensation drains in your air conditioner. Over time, debris can accumulate in these drains and prevent proper drainage. When this happens, water builds up, and when water builds up, rust happens.
Refrigerant Leaks
If refrigerant leaks are caught early, such as during a yearly tune-up, they can be easy to fix. You may not even need an expensive refrigerant refill because of it. However, refrigerant leaks can be slow, but you will notice them when your home no longer gets cold. Unfortunately, the longer you let it go, the more expensive it can be to fix. Furthermore, leaking refrigerant is not something you want lingering around your home.
